Thanks

I've stayed at both. Both are in Playacar. The Yucatan is on the beach the Tequila is not. The Yucatan has had a recent renovation on their pool area and it came out very nice. The resort rooms are similar...your hotel room with separate bath and patio/balcony. There are fridges in both. They both have pool bars. The restaurants also are similar with buffets in the main dining rooms for breakfast and then lunch either by the pool or in the main dining room. Dinner must be in your specific hotel but you can eat lunch and breakfast at either. When staying at the Tequila I would sometimes wait for breakfast until I went across the street to the Yucatan to eat my breakfast since the guests at the Tequila use the Yucatan beach. There is a walkway with trolley that runs from the Tequila between the Yucatan and the RIU Palace Mexico to bring people to the beach and back. The restaurants themselves for dinner were ok. I don't prefer AI's anymore as to eating in town but having said that I prefer the food at the Tequila - especially the breakfast. There are specialty restaurants for dinner at both and they are ok. I enjoyed sitting by the pool area at night and listening to the show going on at the Yucatan while looking at the lights at Cozumel. The Tequila also has a great area for shows and outdoor bars at night and a disco for after the show. I like both resorts and would stay again at either depending on price. If you sign up at the RIU website you can get a RIU card which earns you points for your stay that you can use at the resort. They will also send you specials periodically. There is also the unofficial RIU website with it's own forum for more info.

Thanks for the comments! Are you familiar with Tiu Playacar?
I have great rates for the following
Riu Tequila, Yucatan and Playacar, also for ALlegro Playacar, Viva Wyndham Aztteca, Viva Wyndham Maya and Grand Coco Bay.

Any suggestions? We have never done an AI and would like to try it, it is for a quick getway with my husband (3 nights).

I have not stayed at the Playacar which is a bit further toward Playa Del Carmen than the others; but not much. They're all pretty contained in Playacar. I don't think the beach at this point is as good in that direction as it is in the south end of Playacar which is where the Tequila,Palace Mexico, Yucatan, Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan and Sandos Playacar are located. I would also not venture into the Viva hotels as they are also in that same area. The Grand Coco Bay is at the north end of Playa Del Carmen and on the beach. Positives are that the beach in that area is very nice, the north end of PDC is great and you can walk or take a taxi into town. I have not stayed there but walked past many times. It seems to draw a family type of group with many children. Also, there is a group of boats moored out in front of the resort so they have roped off the swimming area in front and if you'd rather not stay in the swimming area you can walk just a bit (not far) either north or south of the resort to swim it's beautiful. That's where I spend most of my time at the beach - just south of Grand Coco Bay. There are quite a few trip reports about this resort recently on Trip Advisor.

If you are looking for a good All Inclusive and it is just for you and your husband The Royal Hideaway is the best in Playa del Carmen and it is in Playacar. It is compared to The Fairmont and The Ritz Carlton. They do not alow children under the age of 13 so for an adult atmosphere it is great. They are one of the only all incluseive hotel in the world that has won culinary awards.

Thanks for the info. Denisec, thanks for the advise, unfortunately this needs to be an economic weekend, so I think those resorts are out

Also, the beach at the Royal Hideaway has had SEVERE erosion this past year, and lost even more when Dean went through.
