Hi Markus! I take it you are in Finland (very cool architecture coming out of your country by the way).
Check out the Caesar Park Hotel in Ipanema. Yes Copacabana is famous but not as chic as Ipanema or Leblon. They have a website www.caesarpark-rio.com.
I would not say that this hotel is trendy..look at the rooms but it has location, location and location.

P.S. Markus are you going to see Brasilia, the capital while you are in Brazil? It is famous for its futuristic modern architecture by Oscar Neimeyer. The city was designed in the shape of an airplane. You really only need about 2 days there. Not much to do.

Take a look at this website, it lists the best restaurants and bars of Rio:
http://www2.uol.com.br/veja/especiais/comida/rj_2002/index.html

Also the newest hotel in Rio is the Mariott on Copacabana. Im not an architect but It is modern, trendy, 5 star and has an ocean view. It also has a pool on the roof with a great view of the city and beach including Sugar Loaf, very impressive. As the other poster stated above about the Ceaser Park hotel, yes it is a fine hotel, one of the beast and it enjoys a great location but it is not modern or trendy. Where ever you decide to stay do go to the beach on Sunday in front of the Ceaser Park hotel, it is a good place to be. You can view many hotels and make reservations on this website: www.blameitonrio4travel.com

Actually I just thought of another new hotel in Rio on Copacabana beach, it is the Orla hotel. Brand new 4 star hotel right on Ave. Atlantica take a look at it on www.blameitonrio4travel.com, he has some good pictures of the hotel. This hotel is new and not as expensive as the Mariott. The Mariott has more of a business crowd while the Orla may be more tourist.

Hey Markus,

For hotels try the Rio Othon or Marriot, but the most spectacular is the Copacabana Palace, they're all on Copacabana Beach, with fantastic ocean views.

BASE (club) is supposed to be 'the' place to go. And there's always Hard Rock Cafe in Barra.

Also, if you want to see some Rio architecture then visit the MAC ( Contemporary Art Museum) over in Niteroi.

Hope this helps!
