Rio Dejaneiro

Has anyone ever been to Rio? If so, did you enjoy it and did you find it safe?

Audrey, take a look at the posts in the past couple of weeks and months just for Brazil, there has been alot of information posted as far as safety is concerned, hotels and even places to eat. You should get a good idea of what you are dealing with then. If after you have read all these posts feel free to ask any questions on this board or you can email me.

As in any city today in the world, you must be careful. You can really enjoy Rio if you take a few simple precautions such as leaving valuables in the Hotel safe, don't walk around wearing flashy jewelry, don't take valuables to the beach, and stick to the large air-conditioned buses called frescao instead of the standard public buses. (If you travel by bus.)
Traveling around Rio by taxi is really probably the best way to get around for a first time tourist though, and it is not very expensive considering the strength of the dollar there.
I also think first time visitors would probably feel safer and more relaxed in Ipanema as opposed to Copacabana.
Don't let anyone scare you away from Rio though, it is the most beautiful city in the world!
