Restaurant Reservations
Hello - I am wondering about making dinner reservations at restaurants in Buenos Aires, particularly some of the following: Cluny, Milion, La, Cabana, etc. What is the easiest way?
Also, I hear that most Argentinians do not eat dinner until after 10pm and that most restaurants do not accept reservations after 9pm or so? Does one just have to wait for a table to become available?

If you are going to a hotel with a good concierge, he should be able to take care of everything. Your check will be the same, but he'll make some money.
Except in the most touristy areas, restaurants don't open until after 8 PM. Argentinians have dinner after 9 or 9,30 PM. I would suggest going at 8.30 PM. You'll get better service and the crowd will come in when you are getting ready to leave, which would be fine, as far as I am concerned.

I agree with Sr. Rooster, 8h30 - 9h00 is a good time to dine provided you can get back to your hotel, shower, and get ready for the nightshift. I always find that difficult myself, but then again, I'm somewhat high maintenance .
For my restaurant reservations, I made a couple before I left NYC, and made the rest on the day of - but this was in January during the Portenos summer vacation. Most restos I called only asked for my name, whereas here in NY, you need to give your name, phone number, then you need to call to confirm, etc. Por favor!
I would make a reservation if you can. You'll get a better table, and not have to wait so long.

I made my reservations at La Cabana before I left home.
We ate a Cluny while we were there (just got back yesterday). The ravioli stuffed with lamb was terrific, but avoid the pork 4 ways - it was way over cooked.
Cluny is very cool - see if you can snag a table on the outside terrace. You are shielded from the street, but still outside.
Milion was awesome! We didn't eat there but did drop in a some dessert and a bottle of champagne. Fantastic service and the coolest setting imaginable.
Oh! And if you get the chance, go to Puerto Madero and check out the new Faena Hotel. We stayed at Malabia House but went to Faena for drinks. It is decorated like a fairy tale. I have never seen anything like it. Check out their "Bistro" lined with billowy white curtains and busts of Unicorns!! It is simply fantastic.
Email me if you would like any extra info. [email protected]

Half the time, the "smoking area" here consists of pointing you to any empty table and replacing the ashtray on it with a sign that says "No Fumadores". "Area" is a very loosely defined concept in restaurants here!
