Restaurant Recommendations Needed
2 adults and kids ages 8 and 6 going to Arenal and Monteverde Jan 9-14.
Arenal - Arenal Paraiso - Jan 9-12:
Breakfast is included but need some kid friendly recommendations. Should we do the hot springs dinner one night? Which one? We need suggestions for three nights and a lunch or 2. Should we eat at the hotel? Seems expensive. Can we walk to some restaurants?
Monteverde - Fonda Vela-Jan 12-14:
Breakfast is not included here. Any family friendly suggestions? Can we walk to restaurants?
Thanks!

While you are in the Arenal area, you could take a cab to LaFortuna for a meal or two. There are a quite a few good choices, cabs are reasonable and it will get you out of your resort for a few hours. We had quite a bit of rain during Thanksgiving week, but it was warm and beautiful. You'll probably have a few places within walking distance too. Look on Arenal.net and you can see which places you will be near.

El Novillo in Arenal has really good steaks; check out La Choza de Laurel for rotisserie chicken - neither is fancy, but the food is good. EcoTermales hot springs gets good reviews for dinner; Tabacon gets pretty bad reviews foodwise.

We stayed in Fonda Vela in the 1st week of Dec. Nothing is walking distance from the hotel. You will need to take a taxi to get anywhere. Taxi to town (Santa Elena) from the hotel is $5 each way.
In Monteverde, I recommend the Tree House restaurant in Santa Elena. Its a restaurant in the trees - kids would love it and food was good. http://www.canopydining.com/gallery.shtml
We also liked Tramonti. Very good pasta and pizza (again kids will like it):
In Arenal, I recomment Don Rufino: http://www.donrufino.com/
La Choza de Laurel Restaurant: http://www.lachozadelaurel.com/
Las Brasitas (Mexican): http://www.lasbrasitas.com/brasitas.html

In Arenal, we took our kids to Eco Thermales for the afternoon and then had dinner there at 6:00. The food is simple, served family style and quite good. Our kids are 7 and 9 and Eco Thermales was a hit with them and a great family choice in my opinion. Our hotel arranged a taxi for the round trip. (2:30 pick up at Lost Iguana - 7:30 pick up Eco Thermales.)
