Question for shillmac (reposting)

I think I accidentally posted this in the wrong section. ooops.

Anyway, we are booked in April 2008 with the following itinerary:
4 nights La Fortuna
4 nights Manuel Antonio (Issimo Suites)
5 nights Bosque del Cabo

I need to add one more night into my itinerary. Where should I add it? I can't decide ;-)

Do you need to spend a night near the airport, or would you like to just add a day to one of the spots you mentioned? The Peace Lodge is really nice if you have time to explore the Waterfall Gardens while you're there and maybe check out Poas Volcano.

I, too, think Peace Lodge would be a very nice option, but wouldn't suggest just one night there unless you can arrive fairly early in the day. To me, if you are going for the splurge of a place like Peace Lodge, you might as well enjoy it to the max, and two nights is ideal.

As far as adding to one of your existing locations, I'd vote for Bosque del Cabo. But I'm thinking you've already got all of these booked already and are looking for something extra. . .?

You are getting a very good taste of the country in some great nature locations. Have you thought about staying in town (San Jose) one night? Grano de Oro would be a nice choice for you. There are actually some interesting sights in the city to see. We really enjoyed visited the Teatro Nacional and the Plaza de la Cultura as well as the Gold Museum and the Mercado Central. You might also enjoy the Puebla de Antigua dinner/folkloric dancing show. Any hotel can arrange that for you.

You could always add a bit of final luxury by booking Finca Rosa Blanca or Xandari for the extra night at the end of your trip.

Hope this helps. Need a bit more information!

BTW, you don't mention your arrival/departure times. Do you already have lodging near the airport for first and last nights or are your travel times such that you don't have to do that?

Thanks for your replies. Our flight actually arrives at 0930 so it comes in early. I'm thinking it would be too hard to shift everything so I'm opting for either adding a day on the front end (Arenal) or possibly looking into your San Jose or Peace Lodge suggestions.

A couple more questions, should I fly or drive to Arenal from San Jose? I'm having a hard time find a car rental agency in Arenal. I don't mind driving vs. flying but I don't want to have to drop the car back to San Jose since our next stop will be MA.

We stayed at the Grano de Oro for a night and really enjoyed it. If you stay there, they have a wonderful restaurant you should check out and a nice rooftop garden area with two hot tubs.

Regarding flying vs. driving, most people drive - have you checked out Tricolor? That appears to be the most popular car rental spot. We hired private drivers through our hotels, so didn't do a rental. Interbus is another popular option.

How are you planning on getting to MA? You have to go through San Jose when flying Nature air to Quepos from the Arenal Area. Vacation City is showing 4 car rental offices in La Fortuna.

How about Vista del Valley, Orquideas Inn for less upscale but still nice places. Poas Volcano Lodge is another nice idea. You could visit La Paz waterfall gardens from those easily. You could also visit Grecia, Sarchi, Zoo Ave, Doka Coffee Plantation, Poas Volcano.
