Puerto Vallarta or Montego Bay?
Hi, My two girlfriends and I are considering either Montego Bay or Puerto Vallarta for a March 2005 vacation. We are looking for a nice beach, decent food and a nice pool. We don't need a lot of off-resort activities. Any input is appreciated.
p.s. we are in our late 20's.

One consideration. Where are you flying from? Jamaica is easier from east coast US and PV from the west.
I love Puerto Vallarta and have been there many many times. There are certainly resorts that fit what you are asking for. That said... The beaches are not particularly nice, not like in the Caribbean. And the lively El Centro (downtown) shops, restaurants, galleries, promonade & friendly local people, Mexican ambiance are a large part of why many people choose PV. Since you're just looking for a resort to relax, I don't think Puerto Vallarta offers any more than most any other resort destination.
I visited Jamaica twice, we flew in to Montego Bay and went directly out to Negril but that was years ago so I'll refrain from comment or comparison.

We are flying from Philadelphia. If we stay in Jamaica, we will stay in Montego Bay because it is only a 5 day trip and we prefer to be closer to the airport. Have you stayed in Montego Bay, and if so, did you like it?

I like Suze go to P. V. very often I have been to Bahamas also and I too always fly out of Phila. If you don't mind the longer flight I would say go to P. Vallarta if you do mind the longer flight I suggest Montego Bay. P.V. has much more to offer it is more tropical and you will be guaranteed perfect weather however the weather in Bahamas in like the shore it can rain but it doesn't in P. V. at that time of year have been going for 16 yrs still love it. any more questions please email me [email protected] willbe glad to help

Love PV as I do... 5 days seems pretty darn short a time to go all the way to the West Coast of Mexico, especially if a nice resort is all your need.
I did not stay in Montego Bay, just landed and took a bus one time & taxi another time out to Negril (it's only 1 hour away). I'm afraid did not care from it but as I said that was a long time ago and I didn't spend any time at all there, only what I saw driving to and from the airport.
Do you have this question posted on the Caribbean board too? I'm guessing you can get much better information and suggestions for a good Mo Bay resort there, from people who know and love that part of the world.

I have been to both and go back to PV every chance I get and have NEVER been back to Jamaica!!! We stayed at the Half Moon Bay which was out to town--this was several years ago and I don't know if it is still as nice. The Caribbean water is much prettier, but Mexico has SO many more plus factors(at least for us)!
