Progresso, Merida & Uxmal - Transportation Information
Hope someone can help me. I will be arriving in Progreso on a cruise ship in Feb. at 8am - 8pm. I would like to see Merida and Uxmal. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might do both or am I being too ambitious?

Given your schedule, we would really recommend seeing Dzibichaltun - http://www.yucatantoday.com/destinat...bilchaltun.htm - you;ll be able to enjoy a little-known Mayan site, swim in the cenote, enjoy a great lunch, and not be stressed by the clock.

Thank you both for your replies. Sorry I have been away. I looked at Dzibilchaltun, but it didn't look like there is much there. If I wanted to really get a feeling for the way things "were" would I be better to just go to Uxmal and calling it a day? Or is it worth it to just go to Dzib... and then do Merida too? Just need yho. Thanks again.

I think it depends upon your priorities. Do you most want to see ruins? If so, go to Uxmal. It is spectacular. Dzib. is nice, but does not rival Uxmal. Dzib. also has a museum which is supposed to be very good (it is closed on Mondays, the day we were there). You could go to Dzib. and Xcambo. Again, Xcambo is small but you may easily be the only one there. It is just off the road between Progreso and Telchac Puerto.
Merida is nice, but I am not a city person, so it was not my favorite.
Two final thoughts: Having been to both, if I had to chose one, it would be Uxmal.
Also, I cannot empasize enough how helpful Yucatan Today's website and print magazine is--full of information and maps.
