Private Car Service or Tour from Santiago-Mendoza
My husband & I are interested in taking a private car service or a tour bus from Santiago to Mendoza (crossing the Andes). I understand crossing borders in rental cars is difficult if not impossible and this would be a one-way trip, so for logistical ease, we'd prefer to be driven and not drive ourselves. We are looking for a private car service or a bus tour, as opposed to public transportation, because we would like to stop along the way (& potentially learn something from the driver/guide). Our hotel does not know of any such services. Please respond if you have any recommendations. Thanks!

Hello MMKresse:
My wife and I travelled from southern chile finally up to Santiago and then to Mendoza on our way to Bs. As. This was last Feb/Mar.
I thought of doing as you are asking about but our travel agent in Bs. As. recommended that we fly Santiago to Mendoza and then take a day trip to the high mountains which we did.
A bus or road trip Santiago to Mendoza will take at least 8 hours driving so you will not have much day light hours to see things along the way.
Our day trip [using Huntata out of Mendoza] was teriffic. They made numerous stops on the way. Our tour guide, Laura was very good with her English explanations and a lot of fun too. They stopped at a monument dedicated to San Martin and his 6000 men who crossed the Andes at this site to liberate Chile/Argentina. Also stopped at a ski lift, Los Penitentes where we had a great ski lift view. We stopped to see Aconcagua 6900 m high and the Inca Bridge. Our final stop was at the Cristo Redentor, high up in the Andes. Spectacular.
We had a very full day, all of it great.
I hope this is of some help to you.
As good as Huentata were, the local tour company in Mendoza, Baco Tours were very bad.
After a week in Mendoza we went to San Juan and the week there was very good. Money Tur there with Marcelo as our guide for the week.
Have fun.
