Posada Lamar -Tulum

Hello All,
I'm planning on a trip to Tulum in February and am thinking about staying at Posada Lamar. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this small resort? Also, the owner is requesting a 50% deposit via wire transfer, is this common and safe? Thanks for all your replies and advice!

I just got the same request when beginning to inquire about a reservation at Posada Lamar. Is this safe to do and a common practice for lodging in the Tulum area?

Thanks in advance.

From what I have read/researched, it is common for this part of Mexico (Tulum) due to lack of phone lines. I just booked 5 nights in late Feb. at Lamar. I have a friend who is spending the winter in Playa Del Carmen and he went down to check Posada Lamar out.....his report is book it. It's a great spot. I have had many questions with Roseta at Lamar and she has been very tolerant of my questions.

It is common - I've had to send a check to a bank account in Florida to reserve a place to stay in Tulum. Payment is always in cash - hardly anyone takes credit cards.

We went to Tulum this past July and indeed upon booking our reservation, they did ask for a non-refundable 50% deposit.

The place that we stayed at accepted cash, credit card & wire transfer.
