Playa del Carmen
I have plans to go to Playa del Carmen with my 75 year old mother in February but I have heard it was hit by the same hurricane that damaged Cozumel and may, therefore, not be a good destination. Is there any truth to this?

My understanding is that the damage there was much less than Cancun or Cozumel which are both pretty much out of business right now. We're going in about 2 weeks and I'll report back when I return. In the meantime, you might check the boards at www.playadelcarmeninfo.com

From what I've read, Playa is doing fine now. We're going in January. Go to http://playa-maya.com for some pictures and writeups.

We are going to PDC for Thanksgiving break. From the research we've done, PDC is operating at about 80% right now. The only thing we were planning on doing that we can't do because of the hurricane is go to one of the ecoparks (XCaret or XelHa). Otherwise the beach is fine, restaurants and shopping are in business, snorkeling is unaffected. We'll post a review when we return.
