Planning a trip to BA - am I crazy?

Hey everyone... just starting to think about planning a trip to BA area, and am hoping to go beginning of May. Before I get too deep into my research.... First, it looks like the weather is fall-like, true? Will it be comfortable to be outside? And second, am I crazy to plan so quickly? Will I be able to find good hotels, etc.?

thanks!!

Yes, the weather is fall like. Usually it is fine outdoors during the beginning of May. I have been in Buenos Aires during the early part of May for five consecutive years....and each year the first of May I needed sunglasses and wore tshirts or short sleeves...but by the end of the month it started to turn cooler....long sleeves and a jacket required.

No, you are not crazy to go on short notice. You will probably be able to find good hotels, but not always your first choice or the best rooms...have you done a search on travelocity or one of the other sites to determine availability for your specific dates?

No not crazy to plan so quickly unless you just must stay somewhere in particular, or you are travelling (this applies worldwide) somewhere at a time when that "somewhere" is hosting its big annual, and very famous event. Think Sevilla in Holy Week; or Edinburgh at Festival time; or Sydney on New Year's Eve; or Vietnam during the Tet Festival.

So - hey - go for it - it could even be next week. Why not?

Happy planning and have a great time.

I just did a search for the first week in May. It appears there is a lot of availability for hotel rooms....if you are flexible, you should have no problem finding a good property.

Thanks so much for your responses... I'm going to go ahead and try to do this!! Drdasggy.... where did you search? Travelocity? I've been reading the posts and notice a lot of people using a travel agent (Mayra?). I'm used to doing the research myself, but do the TA get better rates? Trying to decide which area to *try* and stay based on availability - so far thinking either Palermo or Recolleta? Want to be able to walk everywhere - live in NYC, so walk many miles every day normally - like to be accessible to a lot.

Also, trying to see how to break up the trip, should we hit the Falls sandwiched between two smaller stays in BA? If I have 8 nights, how would you recommend breaking it up?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Cindy,

You are definitely not crazy. We visited B's A's early last May and had a wonderful time. The weather was very nice, and we even wore shorts on occassion. I also like to handle the travel arrangements myself. Dr. D, Avrooster and some of the other regular posters provided invaluable information so it was very easy to make choices on where to stay, things to do, etc. We stayed at the Regent and the Bobo.

I just did a quick search for air fare, and there are some $762 roundtrip fares from Newark thru Miami.
Check the farecompare

sorry, pushed the wrong button. Check out a website called farecompare for the best airline travel rates.
