Planning a 10-day Argentinian vacation

My husband and I are planning a 10-day vacation in mid-May to Argentina. With air travel, we are left with 8 days for vacationing. He is set on a "relaxing time" staying in one place, Buenos Aires, but since neither of us has ever been to South America I am hoping to see more of the country. I know if I can come up with some good ideas he will be swayed to venture out of BA. I am thinking a few days in BA and a few days in some other part of Argentina. He does not want to do a lot of packing and re-packing, or moving repeatedly from one hotel to another, so wherever we go other than BA needs to offer day trips that we can make from a central location. Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Last March we flew from BA to Calafate to visit the Glacier National Park. It is a full one day trip out of Calafate so you would need to spend two nights there. There is not a lot in the town except places catering to the tourists. We did have delicious Patagonian lamb one evening.
Remarkably it is very easlily done -- by bus to the park and then by boat and short walks. It is really awesome to be so close to this stupendous work of nature. Of course, there are the Andes too. The views on the airplane on departure were fantastic. Sit on the left hand side if possible.
But I'm not sure about the weather in May. It may be getting windy by then. We had glorious weather in March.

When in BA, definitely do a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay. It's a wonderful day trip to a beautiful colonial town. Take a high speed boat (book through Buquebus-- this can be done when you get to BA-- either call yourselves or have your hotel book for you). Trip takes about 45-50 minutes on the boat, then you can spend the day enjoying the town. While in BA, I would also suggest taking a tour of the Colon opera house.

I would recommend a side trip to Iguazu Falls. It is about a 1hr 45 minute plane flight from BA. You can spend 2 nights there and enjoy touring the Argentine and Brazilan side of the Falls and then fly back to BA. We stayed at the Sheraton which is inside the Park and makes a nice base. There are rooms with views of the Falls. Another option would be to go to an Estancia outside of BA. LaBamba is about 60-70 miles outside the city and makes for an interesting overnight stay.

We took a side trip to the Iguazu Falls. My husband prefers day trips as well but he was glad we went. We left our suitcases with the hotel and each took a small carry on with wheels which we checked. The taxi ride was only 10 minutes to the airport and then a van took us to the hotel. Cintia at Wowargentina arranged everything. They can also arrange other day trips from BA and will provide a notebook of information.
We decided to go to a Tango Show and enjoyed the evening in BA. We learned about Cintia from this Web site and were very glad we had coordinated our trip through her. Everything was smooth and organized.
BA is a big city and it was nice to combine it with a different part of the country. The Falls were beautiful.
