Placencia Village ?s

Visiting Placencia Village mid-May 2005 with group of 20 from USA, for 8 days, all first-timers. Mostly working on an educational project, but should have evenings free.
In Placencia Village:
1- can you rent bikes and/or golf carts?Where?
2- maps I've seen are 'not to scale', what are these distances - Ranguana Lodge to Placencia Market? Ranguana Lodge to Plancencia Laundrymat? Ranguana Lodge to Placencia Office Supply?
3- Is laundrymat self-service?
4- What is minimum drinking age?
5- If you want to buy a bottle of rum, do you go to a bar, or are there special stores? (ie: in US, ABC stores)
Any and all advice/suggestions/must-dos will be considered. Thanks!

You can rent bicycles, can't remember the name of the place, far south end of town. No golf cart rentals that I know of.

Everything in the village itself is easy walking distance. Ranguana Lodge is centrally located, most everything will only be a few blocks.

I saw some signs for laundry service, never saw a self-service laundry.

I believe the minimum drinking age in Belize is 18. I'm not sure about rum, I know it was for sale in the grocery stores on Ambergris Caye, I just don't recall in Placencia.

No golf carts in Placencia. Rum available at any grocery. You can get bike's at Deb & Dave's .Cara's Laundry is a laudramat just south of Ranguanana Lodge on the other side of the Sidewalk. Try The Galley, B.J's and Daisey's for great local food.If you can fit in a snorkeling trip to Laughing Bird Caye it well worth it. Have fun ,Pacencia is great.

I've responded elsewhere to your question which you've crossposted.

I didn't know it, but I was told golf carts are available for rent now -- at the Esso (?) gas station.

I'd add that Wendy's in the village is an excellent and not expensive restaurant.

Booze is sold at most grocery stores on the peninsula.

I'm told the laundry is not self-service -- I've never used it myself as I always arrange with my hotel to have laundry washed and folded.

Dianni's guesthouse also has bikes for rent.
