No problemo. We had a great time. I'll try to put together a trip report.

<I thought you had to stop at the ATM to pay the cab fare>

Nope, trust me, you don't. They would be happy to accept your USD (because they make more off the deal than if you pay them in peso!).

You misunderstand. I know that. That's why I was questioning Birdie about it. The "you" in the post was meant specifically for Birdie, as in "I thought you said you had to stop."

Cancun Airport ATM: I used the Santander one. Note that there was no way to toggle on English for this ATM so needed help from others in line with the Spanish prompts. Got a nice smattering of different values of bills. Fee was about 27 pesos, less than $1.50. Note that many ATMs charge 90 pesos which is not a small amount, and not just ATMs in touristy areas.

<Note that many ATMs charge 90 pesos>

That happens with non-bank machines.

Add to above: prepare to cancel the transaction if you are not allowed to withdraw the amount that you want. I ran across a machine that limited withdrawals to 2500 pesos. It's not worth paying a 90 peso fee and getting less money than you need. Cancel the transaction and try another one.

Suze: It was (I think) a bank ATM but located in an Oxxo (c-store). I was misled by Capital One that there would be a fee-free ATM at that particular Oxxo, but it wasn't fee free.

Oh OK. Thanks for clarifying. I have never seen that high of a fee on a Mexican bank ATM.
