Thanks for the awesome trip report. We are leaving in 90 days for Peru and Ecuador. I was wondering if you could post the link for the packing list you mentioned? It would be a big help for me. Many thanks.

Oops, never mind! I found it myself. Should have done a more thorough search the first time!

Hi 61luv2travel,
thanks for the great trip report...it's very useful to my final planning. I was planning on booking everything myself, but now I'm thinking of contacting your travel agent, Nina.
Did she charge you an additional fee, or just take commissions on the properties booked?

I also had planned to cut out Lake Titicaca in favor of two days in Cuenca, Ecuador, but now you've made me rething this also. Sounds like you thought the long trip there was worth it.

barefootbeach -

I didn't break out all of the costs, but I believe that our travel agent (Nina) basically put together our package based on my requests with some over to cover her costs. She gave me a final total cost and I could go through and compare what it would cost if I put it all together myself. To me, it was worth it to have someone else take care of all of the details. I know some people revel in the entire process, but I start to get anxious if I think that I might miss some important detail. Also, I knew thaat if some snafu happened on the trip, she would help us to take care of it. She called me at the hotel our 2nd night in Peru just to make sure we were okay. She would reply to email questions we had during the trip. Also, if any questions came up, our guides would tell us not to worry, they would contact their local office and everything would be taken care of. It was great.

With regards to Lake Titicaca, I don't think the bus trip is for everybody. My husband, in particular, starts to go nuts if he has to do it more than 1 day in a row. But for this one day trip, he really liked it. We had stops about every 2 hours so it helped to break it up. The stops were interesting to us, though probably the most "touristy" of anything we did. Since the rest of the trip we went around as a small group of 8 with private guides, this was also not that big of a deal. Lake Titicaca itself was just really interesting to us. Again, you know that some of it has been preserved and presented for tourism, but that doesn't take away from the fact that there are these very different cultures which are so fascinating to explore. Hope that helps.
