Percy Help! New resort in Ixtapa?

Percy,
Back in 2001 I think. My wife and I stayed at Qualton club.Just North of there past the public pier and venders area there was some construction going on. Do you know if they built a resort there and if so is it finished and what the name is.
Thanks Karl

Hi Karl

I am in the process of getting the most up to date info about the Qualton Club.

At one time they were thinking of building some luxury Condo's there but just maybe the local governemnt changed the rules.

There always seems to be construction there as the very nice "Melia Azul Ixtapa was suppose to be adding on.

Then as you know there is the Club Med in this area also.

It is from this area that you take the 'water taxi from Playa Quieta and Playa Linda to Ixtapa Island.

I e-mailed a friend of mine in Ixtapa and hope he is around to respond so I can give you the most recent update.
Percy

Hi Karl:

Okay ,there is no construction going on by the Qualton Club.
Melai Azul Ixtapa( the very nice fancy resort) was putting the finishing touches on their Convention Centre but that it done.

Also ,they were thinking of extending the pier at Playa Linda, but this new work is on hold.
It is from Playa Linda that you take the water taxi to Ixtapa Island.

If you have never been to Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo ..you will love both places as it is a 50 cent bus ride ( 20 minutes) from Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo.

Have a great time
Percy

Karl:

I think I now know the construction site you are talking about.

A few years ago they were building a resort in this area, then all the construction stopped for about a good year with the project left unfinished, no one knew why, maybe finances.

But now,I think they are either starting up again or going to start up again.
The new place will be called "The El Arrecife" and it will be a nice upscale place.
If you are set on going to the Qualton Club ,then I would e-mail them and ask if there is construction going on right now, and if it is too noisy.

Problem is, how accurate of an answer will they give you. !!!!

This is up to the minute news about the Qualton Hotel area..."Percy reporting." (ha,ha)

Hope this helps a bit
Goodnight
Percy

Percy, good to hear you talking out there! I've missed your input on the Costa Rica posts! I've been in touch with Neta (regularly) and she is doing well! Hope to be able to see her this summer for a bit. She has had a few Fodorite's e-mail her for help and is able to stay involved to some extent. When are you going to Europe? Regards. . .

Hi shillmac

We are leaving for England/Scotland/Ireland and Wales on June 25th.

I asked Liz(that Liz as in Queen Elizabeth) to have tea ready upon my arrival... so we shall see, she said she would but somehow I doubt that!?!!

I am going to send Neta a short note right now.
I sure hope to see her this year, she was a jewel on this board.
Take Care
Percy
