Peace Lodge too Disney?

My family will be spending two nights at Peace Lodge in June. The reviews on trip advisor are not very complimentary and compare it to Disneyworld.

Can anyone help? Should I change my reservation for someplace else. We are also travelling to Rafiki Lodge and Tulemar Bungalows.

Personally, we loved the Peace Lodge. The grounds and views are just breathtaking. Of the 5 regions we visited, Peace Lodge was quite welcoming from all the rustic lodging we stayed in. The staff is phenominal, and food we found to be the best in our entire 2 weeks travels. I think what folks refer to as "Disneyesque" are the many man-made materials found on-site. Some of the landscaping is not all natural as is most all of CR and why people go there. It did not bother us, we just overlooked it and appreciated the incredible job that was done with this place (owners live in FL) and enjoyed the beauty that surrounded us. The rooms are incredible. The LaPaz Waterfall gardens are amazing. I am happy to share our Peace Lodge photos if you post your email.

I agree with michelina01. I'm all about nature and natural, but somehow I didn't let the "over the top" bother me. The waterfall showers are a little hokey, but sitting in the hot tub on the balcony and watching mist in the mountains was stunning. We also enjoyed the waterfall walks.

I 3rd it. We are really into nature/natural but we did enjoy our time at Peace Lodge. We didn't care for the food as much but watching the clouds come over the volcano and down into the La Paz waterfall area from the jacuzzi on the balcony was really nice. Being able to wander around and enjoy the property before and after the crowds of day trippers was the best part. I am looking forward to going back someday when they finish working on it.

I absolutely agree. We totally dislike "disneyesque" things-- and absolutely loved Peace Lodge. Just about our favorite spot in CR. We thought the waterfall walks were spectacular, and the hummingbird garden and butterfly pavillion took our breath away. Sure-- the rooms are a bit "over the top" (esp the deluxe rooms), but we thought they were terrific. Only spot we liked better on our whole 12 day trip was Villa Caletas.
