Has anyone done the Pacuare tour with Expediciones Tropicales?

The major players pretty much do things the same and they all have very experienced guides. There are a lot of big boulders and you are wearing a helmet and life vest - no room to play around and take risks and they don't. Try to book through your hotel - good pricing, typically about $95 each, easy pick up/drop off and they will take care of you or lose their connection with that hotel. Even if you get signed up with XYZ company, they will sometimes switch you around if one is over booked and another has openings. They work together to come up with groups of six and get everybody who wants to go out there in a raft. Book with one of the major companies and relax - they all do the same thing on the same stretch of river. It is real blast, expecially when the water is high and on the move.

We are doing the Pacuare with Rios Tropicales for $99pp. To Linda 137-do you know how the rapids will be the beginning of April?? Am not looking for anything too exciting as this is our first time. Thinking since it's dry season it won't be too bad??

I think you are right. I've only been to CR in November & December, but I'm pretty sure that you'll have low water levels in April. Try to bring a waterproof camera if you can. It is a really beautiful river with waterfalls, birds, etc. They will also offer you a CD but since you won't be able to see yourself going down crazy rapids it might not be as interesting to you as it would be to some of us. I have shots where you can barely see anyone in the raft. The CD will include scenery too (some from previous trips) so it might interest you. It's approx. $35-$40 and has dozens and dozens of photos. The photographer will travel along head of your group in a kayak then jump out on the bank and wait for you to come down the river. They do a really nice job.

$99 is a good price - I just hate to hear that people pay $125-$150 not realizing what the typical, going rate is. I tried to reserve from home via the internet a couple of years ago and the best rate I could get was $140 each. I just waited until we got there and paid $95 each.

Let me know if you want to see some photos. You might even want to go back when the water is high.

We did the Pacuare on February 9, and the water was HIGH. We did the Pacuare last year this time and it took five hours on the water. This year it took 3.
