Yes, that mishap was my one complaint about that lodge. Several of us complained about that later and I should hope they have since rectified the communication problem. Overall it was a great experience and I would stay there again. But I might skip the nighttime walk next time.
If that deters you, there are many more lodges to choose from. If you post a question you can get some good referrals from Fodorites.

My 18 yr old son, who I will be traveling with, would love an adventure like feeling that he is perhaps lost in the Amazon rain forest (as long as he was not really lost). I saw this documentary about a young woman whose plane went down in the Peruvian Amazon and all other passengers died (including her Mom). It took her 3 wks to hike out and be found, and by then she was a mess, big worms under her skin, etc. So I think I might freak if I felt I was lost in the Amazon.
I loved your report! A HUGE help for our trip coming up this April, during Semana Santa.

emd, you've just given me an idea. Maybe that experience of "getting lost," wasn't real. Maybe the guide only pretended to be lost in order to make the adventure even more exciting!! Yeah, that's right....
Thanks for your nice words about my report.
