Osa Peninsular
Planning a return trip to CR in July/Aug and want to visit the Osa. Had planned to spend 5 nights in Drake Bay at Delfin Amor, having met people last year who had really enjoyed their visit their.
Firstly any comments on Delfin Amor, and also whether we should try and visit somewhere else in Osa - looked at Iguana Lodge and seems nice. Not sure whether trying to do too much in one area and whether worth staying at two different places.
Also - how easy would it be to get to Delfin from Iguana Lodge or vice versa. We will be travelling to Osa from San Jose and then going on to MA after our stay in Osa.
Thanks in advance - wish I had discovered this site last year as it would have made our trip much easier to plan and avoided some of the unnecessary journeys we made! However, we had a great trip and even before our holiday had finished we were planning ur return!! Seems from reading the posts that CR gets to people in that way!

Welcome to the club!
Getting between the two areas of the Osa is not that easy. The only time it is is when they are running the flights between Drake Bay and Puerto Jimenez. Those flights are very limited and primarily in the high season. Otherwise, it would involve returning to San Jose and then heading out again to the Osa. Then, back to San Jose and then out to Manuel Antonio.
If you are driving, it could be done pretty easily.I haven't driven to Drake Bay only flown so can't say how long it would take to drive from there to the main road to head south. From Palmar Sur, I would plan on about 2 1/2-3hrs to Puerto Jimenez. You could drive to Manuel Antonio from Puerto Jimenez by backtracking through Palmar Sur and heading up through Dominical. You could conceivably leave the car in Puerto Jimenez and fly to San Jose but there would most likely be a pretty hefty drop off fee because there are no car rental offices down there. There was someone not long ago on this board that was able to find a taxi or private driver to drive them from Puerto Jimenez to Drake Bay. It was over $100 but I can't remember how much they said exactly.
I would just go to Delfin Amor and enjoy everything you can in that area and head down to the other side another time.

Thanks Jessie - think I agree and will stick to original plan and just visit Delfin this time (and a good excuse for another return visit!)
Having experienced the roads as a passenger last year really would rather not drive so will fly in and out of Drake Bay.

I saw your request on the other (weight restrictions) thread, but then saw this one, so I will just reply here.
Can't add anything more than Jessie, she has traveled to the Osa many times. I would agree, in deciding not to split the 5 nights between Delfin and Iguana, they are just too far apart.
However, on your next trip (since you are probably already planning!) you may enjoy splitting your time as we did. Bosque del Cabo and Iguana are only about an hour away from one another. I posted a report and pics on these two places a few weeks ago.

Thank you again dfarmer - and yes I am planning next year, although I'm not sure my daughter (just the two of us travelling) will be as keen as I am on a third trip there! Will just have to make sure she has a great trip this year and wants to return - either that or send her off with her dad and I will go on my own next year!
