Osa Peninsula
Hi. We are spending three nights at Lapa Rios of our 7 night trip. We'd like to just stay in the area, and are looking for itineraries or cool lodging in the area, esp closer to Corcovado Park. Enough to do for 7 nights, or should we head elsewhere for a few nights? Thanks....

Bosque del Cabo is an amazing place, but it's VERY near to where Lapa Rios is, although I'm sure quite a different experience. BDC is amazing if you do a search here you'll see many rave reviews. If you want to spend all of your time in the Osa you could also look into the Lost Iguana or Corcovado Lodge, and there are many others depending on your preference. La Paloma is another lux choice if that is what you're looking for. Spending your last night at Peace Lodge may be a great way to end your trip. It's in the central valley and is very indulgent with jacuzzi on the balcony, posh accommodations and amenities, but they also have 5 beautiful waterfalls you can hike to, largest butterfly observatory in the world, ranarium, serpentarium, aviary, hummingbird garden, trout pond and infinity pool, etc.

You could try Lookout Inn, it's right in Carate - your closest option to Corcovado. They have a couple different options - rooms, cabins etc. Food is good but nothing fancy, Terry & Katya will help you with any arrangements. Unless you like to hang out on the beach or plan to go into Corcovado though there isn't a huge amount of stuff to do such as hiking trails. Bosque has about a dozen hiking trails that you can tool around on your own on, but it is right next to Lapa Rios.

Spend a few days at Iguana Lodge, Black Turtle Lodge or if you want more upscale you could stay at Crocodille Bay. They are all closer to Puerto Jimenez and doing day tours from there is a lot easier and cheaper than doing them from Lapa Rios. I wouldn't miss the Animal Sanctuary.
If you really want to be closer to the Corcovado Entrance (this doesn't mean you will see any more than you can see at Lapa Rios or Bosque del Cabo) Luna Lodge is fairly near Look Out. Just further back from the coast on the river. Pretty much behind LookOut. Darling little cabinas, freshly grown organic food and a recently installed pool.

I've been to Casa Corcovado a couple times, but it's on the opposite side of the Osa Peninsula, south of Drake Bay. Just getting there would eat up one of your vacation days. But, it's right on the border of Corcovado Park, and near the San Pedrillo ranger station. It's an easy hike from Casa Corcovado.

Second the vote for Casa Corcovado, which we liked very much - the other side of the Osa from where you'll be at Lapa Rios.
If you're interested in hanging around the same area - for less $$ and a different, on your own experience google Casa Bambu. You'll see 4 privately owned homes located in Matapalo - about a 15 minute walk from Lapa Rios. We stayed in Casa Linda for 5 nights in April and had a wonderful time.
