Not sure what you like to do but for peace and quiet, I would suggest:
Roatan, Honduras - laid back ex-pat communities, mostly english speaking, inexpensive for food and accommodations. Airfare is a little higher but rest is alot less. you can check out www.seadancer.net for a nice quiet and inexpensive place to stay on the beach or www.roatanet.com for alot of info.
Belize is great - most of the quiet places I know have been built up but I am sure there is more. As in the last post.
Bahamas is relatively easy and cheap to get to and has some out islands that are quiet. Harbor Island comes to mind but there are alot more
Tortola in the BVI has some neat places as well.
Hope this helps you start the journey

Suggest San Miguel de Allende. Cool this time of year, highs in the 70's/lo 80's w/lows in the 50's. No ruins or beaches close by, but lots of good walking in a gringo friendly colonial town. Lots of bars and restaurants with jazz, cuban, & spanish music. Or just sit in the jardin and relax and get a shoe shine. No doubt some hotels can be pricey, but with googling you can find good deals. 1 1/2 hours from the Leon (BJX) airport and your hotel can arrange shuttle. Mostly Mexican tourists this time of year. And the American ones are older. I love the beach, but in summer it's just too hot...for me.
