Here's a link to a map of San Pedro. http://ambergriscaye.com/pages/town/...owndetail.html

I consider the north end of town to be north of Aquamarina Suites. That may or may not be correct. As you can see from the map, the center of town is really only a few blocks. Very easily walkable. And cabs are cheap.

I'd point out that the map JeanH is linking to is MY map, one that appears in my book on San Pedro! I've given Marty Casado who runs the ambergriscaye.com permission to use it. Note that this is a version that's a couple of years old and some things have changed.

Lan, I thought that map looked familiar. Any plans of doing an updated version of 'San Pedro Cool'?

I have been to the Cayo District 3 times and if you are an active person and like to do adventurous things exploring the cave Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) has it all over Tikal. Actually the perfect thing is to do them both because the cave is leaders of Tikal held their most important ceremonies--it is a live archeological site with over 1400 artifacts in it. Only 2 tour companies have permission to go in, Mayawalk is supposed to be by far the best--www.mayawalk.com. I went with them and it was an incredible experience. The guide was phenominal. If you do Tikal first you see where the people lived, then you see how they celebrated ancient ceremonidal rituals which were beyond description. But is I only had one day I would definitely do ATM.

Chaa Creek is a pretty fancy resort by Belizean standards, will feel like many Central American high end resorts. If you are looking for authentic and don't mind being out of town a bit I think DuPlooys Jungle Lodge feels better. Again, stayed at both. Have fun.
