Need a Walmart in Costa Rica
Hi - we're headed from the San Jose airport to Puntarenas via rental car and just need to pick up a few personal care items. Where do we go for this? What stores carry sunscreen, shampoo, etc.? Do shops in the airport have these supplies?
Many thanks - we leave on Wednesday.

Near Gate 4 in the airport is a store called Tico Corner, which has a pharmacy and a few health items, It might have what you're looking for, but if you arrive later in the evening, it won't be open. Barring that, about five minutes from the airport is a supermarket called Mas x Menos. (The "x" is pronounced "por." Just head into the nearby city of Alajuela.
The chain is owned by WalMart these days.

Jeff you are a lifesaver. We are getting in mid-day, so long as the flight is on time. Can you please provide more specific info on getting to the Mas x Menos in Alajuela? We tried to look up addresses and it was really ambiguous.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

You'll find that Costa Rica doesn't have real addresses. I could drive there myself, but I'd have trouble explaining it. I'd ask when you pick up the rental car. The name is pronounced "Mahs por May-nos." It's easy to get there and it's easy to get back on the main highway.

Great. Yes, that address thing is not such a small detail, eh? My only other experience in CA was Guatemala and they are actually quite good in that department.
Thanks for the tip on how to say the "por" in the name Mas x Menos. My husband is fluent in Spanish and probably knows that, but I'm still learning and I would've probably come up with something a little more creative!
