Movies/documentaries set in/about Chile?

Hello all,

My parents will be travelling to Chile and would like to see some movies or documentaries set in or about Chile to get a better feel of the nature, culture, history, etc.

Can anybody recommend something? If it's documentaries, preferably something which can be downloaded from the internet, as otherwise it might be quite difficult to find them.

Thanks a lot,
Michele

"Missing" (1992) is about an American who goes missing in Chile right after the September 11, 1973 Pinochet coup. We were in Chile in February and I found myself fascinated to learn more about the Pinochet years and the aftermath.

If they're going to Easter Island (which I recommend!) "Rapa Nui" (1994) is good to watch.

"The Motorcycle Diaries" is a excellent film, set partly in Chile. It tells of some of the early adventures of Che Guevara and a friend who set off on a major roadtrip through South America.

The House of Spirits. The movie is set in Chile but actually shot in Portugal. The book is by Isabel Allende. You may want to check out some of her other books.

The Amazing Race a while back, which featured Amber & Rob from Survivor had a leg in Santiago then headed over the Andies to Mendoza. Fun to watch since we had done the same trek between Mendoza & Santiago.

Hi!

Thanks for your replies! I found out about the Motorcycle Diaries myself. Will check if the other movies are available in Belgium.

MichelleY, I love Isabel Allende's books, but I haven't seen the movie.
