Connie:
I almost stayed there but I chose to go to Cozumel instead. Moon Palace is well outside the hotel zone in Cancun, and secluded. I've read that the resort and pool area is beautiful. The only complaint I've read is that the beach has a lot of sea grass, making the beach unattractive for snorkeling or swimming. Here are some links for you to explore:
http://moonpalace.hotels-cancun.com/
http://www.mayan-riviera.com/
for Cozumel: http://www.travelnotes.cc/

Connie,
Seems everyone either loves this resort, or really hates it. I'm in the latter group, unless I was getting it free, I would not stay there again. Do a search for "Moon Palace" and you'll be able to read for yourself.

My b/f and I stayed at the Moon Palace March 2000 for 8 nights. Overall, it was an excellent deal for the money. For $850 per person (+$450pp airfare), our trip included the usual all-inclusive benefits, plus 2 complimentary manicures, pedicures, and massages; and 2 day trips. Make sure your agent gets a similar deal if you book this resort! Other people told us they didn't get the added perks in their package. We were able to choose from about 7 different excursions. We went to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. The boat trip to Isla Mujeres was an adventure--some people got sick, our boat got stuck on a sand barge. But I thought it was funny, so I didn't get annoyed. I don't recommend eating food outside of the resort. My b/f came down with a bad case of food poisoning, after eating at IM.

The MP food was decent--nothing special, but edible. The "Japanese" restaurant isn't worth the long line. We waited for 2 hours expecting Sushi (they advertise this) and Sake. They served a sliver of a California roll (not my idea of Sushi) as an appetizer and there was no sake. The food was actually barely authentic Chinese, using leftovers from various resort restaurants. The Italian restaurant was the best for dinner. It was buffet style. But there were cooks who prepared various homemade pastas (try the ravioli), meats, stir-fry, and pizzas to order. They always had a wide variety of things to choose from. The lunch buffet by the pool can be a bit scary (food poisoning potential)--the food seems to sit outside for long periods of time. But you can ask the cooks to make things fresh to order.

The room was immaculate, with a large marble bathroom, and a clean two-person jacuzzi, with a nice ocean view. Each room has a decent sized balcony with a hammock.

The service overall was good. Most of the workers are very friendly and helpful. The waiters serve drinks to you on the beach or at the pool.

If you like pools---you'll love this pool. It is huge, clean, and spirals around the property. There are a couple swim up bars.

The beach isn't the greatest, but it is ok. Other Cancun beaches are much better. There is a lot of seaweed here.

This resort is away from the action of the city. If you want to see the action, you'll need to take a cab or schedule (way in advance) for a shuttle.

This is a huge resort---several thousand rooms, I think. There are people of all ages--a lot of couples (late 30's-50's) and families. We were sort of oddballs in terms of age (late twenties), but didn't feel out of place.

It depends on what you are looking for from a vaction. But if you want to get a lot for your money, this is the way to go.

hi connie. my husband and i were at the moon palace last march, and we came away with mixed feelings.getting checked in was a nightmare. we waited for 2 hour, and if my husband had'nt been persistant, we probably would have slept in the lobby. it's a huge resort, some 1700 rooms, but the accomodations were very nice, the food was'nt too bad, once you got thru the lines. we found ourselves eating an early dinner just to avoid the crowd. we went there purely to relax and that we did. the pool area is wonderful, but be to get down there early to get the best lounge chairs. please don't get hooked into any timeshare offers! we got suckered in at the airport, which luckily were able to get out of when we agreed to go through the one at the hotel....ti took an entire afternoon! they try everything to get you to sign up. other than the people at the desk, the hotel employees were very friendly and helpful. this month we are going to a smaller hotel in cozumel, hopefully less crowded. have a great trip! i'd love to hear opinion upon your return.
