mexico city with a 4 year old

My husband came home today and told me he is going to Mexico City for a week next month. I have no experience with Mexico City and was looking for experienced opinions of this trip with a 4 year old. My son is a pretty good traveler, but he and I would be on our own for a good part of the day while my husband is in training classes.
Just wondering about things to do and safety.

Thanks so much
Vicki

hi, could you let me know what hotel you'll be staying at so can give you help. The historical centre is amazing, and you can do lots on foot there. Maybe spend a day in taxco, if you and your son can bear a 2 and a half hour bus ride there and back, beautiful town in hills with silver mines etc. You could go to the south of the city to Xochimilco for a boat trip in the old river system. Very picturesque. Or out to one of the arqueological sites just over an hour away. The metro system is very easy to use and good, taxis always use ones got for you by hotel, restaurants etc. Let meknow what you both like and Ill see what i can suggest.

There are a wealth of things to do in Chapultepac Park with a child, and you will see many families there enjoying the park, museums, playgrounds, boating, refreshments, etc. The Alameda area also has much that might intrigue a child. Agree that you should travel in taxis from the hotel. Maybe your hotel will have a pool--the JW Marriott, for example, has a lovely rooftop one. We used to enjoy traveling to Mexico when our children were younger, because it is such a child friendly, family centered country, but Mexico City IS a big city--I would worry more about finding things to do that would interest a child than safety per se.

Mexican People Love kids so they are accepted places that would not in the US. With a little luck perhaps he can interact with some local ones.

hiya, yes in chapultepec there are pedal boats on the lake and also a zoo. Very busy on sundays though, everyone from mexico city goes. There's an amusement park and also one of those 3D IMAX cinemas nearby. Could be fun and programmes nearly always in english.
