Maya riviera- Grand Mayan Palace- Car?

We are traveling here in January for the 1st time and would like to know whether we should rent a car for the entire time or if there is a car rental close to Grand Mayan Palace to rent for just a day or two?

We just returned from the Grand Mayan....had a fabulous time. We rented our car from Advantage. (made the arrangements prior to leaving for Mexico) Advantage does not have an office at the airport, however they were there to pick us up and take us to their new office less than 5 minutes away. I can't say enough about their service and quality of the car! Price was fair and we were very happy we had the car. We went to Playa de Carmen 3 times during the week. Drove to Tulum and Xel-Ha. The car provided us lots of flexibility - much more than the buses or cabs!
I don't think you could actually rent a car on the Mayan property.......having the car gave us the transportation to and from the airport as well. Have a good trip-----need any more info?

Hi Bunker,

Can you give us a trip report on the Grand Mayan - quality of service, accomodations, etc.?

Thanks,
Kiki

Are you folks talking about the Mayan Palace located outside of Cancun; the place with the huge pool? I've also seen it called Maya Riviera.

The Grand Mayan is the newer and more upscale part of the resort complex. Mayan Palace and the Grand Mayan share the same pools, beach, restaurants, etc. The room accommodation of the Grand Mayan is quite a bit nicer than Mayan Palace.

The beach is rocky in front of Mayan Palace; we did not consider swimming there. But we did walk on the beach and their pool is so phenomenal and right on the beach. We spent just one day there last spring to see the changes that are taking place as the resort expands. Beautiful. We also stayed there for a week the first year they were open and found the accommodations to be wonderful.
