Maroma Resort

I have been dying to visit Maroma and I heard it was set to open in Jan. 2006 after the hurricane. Has anyone been there since and/or know anything about the updates at the resort?

Thanks!

I was wondering too, and I went to their website, and looks like the reopening won't be for another month.
I haven't heard much at all about how much damage this hotel received, I'd love to know too, but if the openings been postponed even further, that's probably not good news...

Hi,
We were scheduled to stay Feb 18-25 and we were called about a week ago and told the hotel would not open. We were very disappointed! However, they were very gracious and gave us $200 for changing airfare and two free nights with a five day package. However, we will not be able to stay until Christmas or Feb 2007. They told us the reopening date would be 2/21, so we thought maybe we would stay a few days in Cancun and then go, but when I talked to the representative, she said it would most likely be March 1. If you go Maroma's website (not Orient Express), it says March 1. I think the website is www.maroma-mexico.com.
So, now we had a major dilemma of where to stay, we are going to try Le Meridien in Cancun. We looked into Esencia, but there are bad reviews on Trip Advisor, so for $600 a night, I just couldn't do it. I will post a trip report on Le Meridien's condition when we get back.

thanks for the update, jallard, look forward to hearing from you when you return. Would love to hear about the condition of Cancun and it's beaches. We are tentatively thinking of a few days at the JW later this summer...

Have you looked at Ikal del Mar resort. It's between Maroma and Playa del Carmen, and is very similar to Maroma. I'd be willing to bet you'd like it even more than Maroma.

This photo is not recent. I believe there is a dock now at Ikal that extends beyond the crappy section of the beach where it meets the water.

I was just reading about the newly opened Sian Nah Suites @ Maroma.(on the Orient Express website) They sound and look fabulous, but wondering if they are actually available at this time. For some reason, I was not able to contact the hotel via email.(wouldn't go though) I understand there is still quite a bit of construction. Any one been there yet (March 2006)?

We've been to Ikal del Mar and just loved it.

Maroma has another website: www.maroma-mexico.com
This website is run by the hotel itself. I emailed through the website and received a quick response.

We are scheduled to go on March 30 and will post a reply afterwards. They are open now but according to the most recent Trip Advisor not everything is up and running.
I have been communicating with their hospitality manager to arrange for some activities while there and she has been extremely helpful and courteous.
The beach is supposed to still be amazing and I am looking forward to enjoying it fully!

Laurenkarl- I, too, will be anxious to read your report. If you get a chance, check out the Sian Nah Suites and let me know what you think. Have a wonderful trip.
