Manuel Antonio Beach-Front Hotels

We are a family of four traveling to Costa Rica at the end of April, and are interested in finding accommodations down by the beach, rather than on the hill in Manuel Antonio.

Does anyone have any experience with hotels by the beach? Thanks!

Verde Mar is by the beach near the park and is nice but not fancy. Watch out for the riptides on the beach in front though.

We stayed three nights at Karahe 2 weeks ago. It's a great location with open air restaurant and pool. You can walk on the beach to the park entrance, some restaurants and craft vendors, lots of monkeys. HOWEVER- if you don't want to climb stairs you have to ask for the beachfront hotel. We were in the "villas", old cabins on the hill- fantastic view but the only thing fun about those steep and uneven stairs was trying to get the iguanas to move. It was 86 stairs to our cabin, my son was at the top with 115! The on the beach part of the hotel looked lovely but I imagine you have to book ahead. They also have some rooms right on the road that I can't vouch for. Wish I was there!

Just got back this weekend from Costa Rica. We stayed at the Verde Mar. It is right on the beach, and very close (walking distance about 10 minutes) to Manual Antonio park. We had no problems whatsoever with rip tides, and, the lifegaurd stand in right in front of the hotel!
