Machu Picchu/Galapagos trip?
Thinking of trip with our 3 adult children. Is is a good idea to combine the 2 places? How many days advisable for each place? Any help with the itinerary would be super (where to fly in/out of, other transportation needed). Also, prudent to sign up for tours in each place? What will the weather be like in both places in late June? Thank you in advance!

Hi:
First, how long do you have? I cannot anawer for Machu Picchu, but I was recently in the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. As for days, it will depend on who answers these questions for you. Some people believe that you shouldn't spend less than 7 days in the Galapagos. Although 7 days would have been nice, due to time constraints we only spent 5 days and thought that it was sufficient (southern islands). We would have liked to see the northern islands, but also wanted to spend time in Ecuador. We had 9 nights. So we divided our time between Galapagos, Bellavista, and Quito.
We flew in an out of Quito, and took day trips from Quito. I booked through Sangay Touring in Quito and hired private drivers for our day trips.
We were in the Galapagos in September and the weather was sunny and warm. I am not sure for June.

My husbamd amd I are in the final stages of booking our Machu Picchu/Galapagos trip for early July! The fixed group itineraries weren't exactly what we wanted so we have planned a private trip to Peru with a guide and a 7 day cruise in the Galapagos. All told we are away 19 days.
We have been working with 2 wonderful organizations. For Peru, Southwind Adventures. Ask for Traci Rasmussen 800-377-9463 ext 103. She is knowledgeable and very helpful. They specialize in this area.
For Ecuador, call David Moore at Adventure Associates 800-527-2500 ext 1200. He works with some lovely ships- we are going on the Isabela II. He is also extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
You can email me at [email protected] if you would like further information about our itinerary or to answer any questions.

I don't know if this response is too late for your trip, but I thought I would try. My husband and I hiked Machu Pichu in 1998 and arrived on Christmas Day. I just wanted to let you know that it was one of the hardest things that I have done in my life. (We didn't have a guide and we carried all of our own things). But, saying that, it was one of the most amazing, memorable and fantastic things that we have done and we think back on it often. We have traveled to many different places since then and have enjoyed every one, but Machu Pichu and hiking the Inca Trail holds a special place with us, it is a real accomplishment!
