LOS CABOS All-Inclusive????
I have a question about Los Cabos...I've only ever passed through for work-related reasons and have never had the chance of staying there. My sister and I (both in late 20's, early 30's) are going to stay for a week in Feb but we've seen on different posts that many mention NOT to stay at an all-inclusive resort...can anyone explain why?
I usually like to taste the food of the specific cities I visit and I've lived in Mexico before and speak fluent spanish so I can get around easily...but on my last 'pass-through' at Los Cabos I found everything to be VERY expensive. So I'm wondering why people advise AGAINST the All-Inclusive.
Any help is much appreciated!
Gracias!

Hello tanita12:
It depends of what you are seeking, if you found Los Cabos expensive, then an All-Inclusive is your best option, because you don´t have to worry about food and drinks, I am not against or in favor of all -Inclusive Resorts, I believe it is matter of what you want and actually I have eaten at the Riu Hotel and the food wasn´t bad at all, but hopefully we all try to give the best comments, some people just try to depreciate a place or a town, let´s be honest there is always something good about everyone´s travel experience..Enjoy your trip and like I have said to a lady named Suze...do not believe everything you read...just take the best advice....have fun in Cabo...

Well I can only speak for myself, but I would never want to be limited to an all-inclusive, stuck eating & drinking at the same place every day. I don't even like resorts, in the first place. I am going to Cabo for the first time next month, and staying at a regular Mexican hotel in downtown.

I think the reason people advise against all inclusives is because although the food usually isn't bad, it's not spectacular, and you're limited on your choices. It also discourages you from leaving the resort and seeing the town. There are some reasonably priced restaurants in Cabo, along with some very pricey ones!

Lots of the rooms available are time shares that are full apartments, so people have kitchens. There are a few AI resorts, but not the abundance of them like you might find in other places (Cancun, Dominican Republic).
So I don't think this is particularly AGAINST all-inclusives just that they are not real common in Cabo San Lucas (same as you find in Puerto Vallarta).

It not that there is anything "wrong" with AI, it is just Cabo has lots of choices for food & drink. However, if you just want to stay at the resort and not venture out, an AI may work.
Last time we were in Cabo, I did the math on what we ate & drank. It would have to be a pretty cheap AI for us to make it worth it.
Check the various resort with AI. You may find that will fit what you need.

We stayed at the Riu Palace and it was lovely - amazing service!!!! The food did get a little repetitive but not bad for 1 week, there are 3 or 4 a la carte restaurants there so there is some variety. If you're staying at an AI make sure there are a la cartes. Depending which AI you stay at, some are very far away from the town, which might be way some people are discouraging you. Being far from the town would stop people from exploring. The Riu is about a 40 minute walk along the beach or only about 5 minute cab ride. We went to the town a couple times and on some excursions, but ate at the AI for all meals (even though it was our honeymoon we were trying to save money.) Hope this helps!!
