Looking for an escorted tour of Mexico

I am based in the UK, and looking to do a tour of about 10 days to Mexico early next year (sometime between end Jan and April). I would like to see some Mayan ruins, but would also quite like to see a larger city (doesn't have to be Mexico City though - isn't that quite far from the Mayan ruins?) with some nice colonial ruins. I do not wish to stay in one all-inclusive resort for the whole 10 days (unless someone convinces me otherwise - as I know some ruins are near Cancun).

I have done some research and found some tours that leave from the UK, but I wondered if any of the US readers can recommmend an american escorted tour company who do escorted tours to Mexico? (ie I could book my own flight, as I think many go via the US anyway)
I am a single woman, in my mid 30s and would be travelling on my own (as usual...!!) but having heard some stories about Mexico not being ideal for women on their own, plus the fact that I am a little pressed for time, I thought an escorted tour would work best. Thanks in advance!

Look at Caravan tours. They have a tour that covers the trail of the Mayans and I believe it would fit your needs. Also, they do not include air fare in their price nor provide same. The price for this trip is very reasonable and includes all hotels, meals and ground transport.

Hi - me again. I just checked caravantours.com and the trip is called Mexico's ancient and colonial cities and starts in Mexico City and ends in Merida and covers Aztec and Mayan riuns. It is an eight day tour that includes all hotels, meals and ground transport and is $995 per person land only.It sounds so good I might do it myself. Caravan is a very well known and trustworthy company so no worries there.

twelveoaks: This is an old thread that was topped by "globusfamily" to advertise . . .

The OP will have already gone on their trip . . . .

Hi janisj,

Well, that's a lesson for me. Really ticks me off. Especially since I went out of my way to help.

Well while this post is up on top(!) I'll chime in and say imo there's no reason a woman couldn't do this type of trip solo, if she wanted to. You don't need an organized tour.
