Living costs in CR
I realise its a fairly difficult question to answer but can anyone give a rough guide to the cost of eating out in CR as we are going for the first time in April and need to know how much $$$ to take. Also what are fuel costs as we are renting a 4x4 for part of our journey.
Thanks in advance

The amount of $$ you'll spend eating out could vary, depending on the areas where you will be. Much cheaper, of course, in the central parts of the country than the beach areas. And some beach areas cost more than others. . .
We don't spend a lot of money for food in Costa Rica. I suppose because we like the comida tipica and don't search out expensive eateries. We don't order wine with meals. So here goes. . .you can usually have a very good breakfast for $5 each. Lunch $5-8 each, dinner around $8-15. $60 per day for both of you would get you by nicely. You could do it for $40 and even less. Again. . .depending!
Not sure about fuel costs. . .it was running the equivalent of $3.50 or so per gallon last July. I doubt it's much different now. You won't use fuel as much as you'd think, due to slower speeds and driving distances. You can spend several hours on the road and actually not go very far, or use much gasoline! Enjoy!

Thanks for that shillmac. We prefer rustic to pretentious when it comes to food, although my wife is a bit partial to the odd vino tinto, the local beer will suffice for me.
The fuel sounds a bargain to the $7+ that we are paying in the UK.
We cant wait for April to arrive.
Thanks again for the info
