Leaving Monday! Have to show $60 a day?

Hello,

(Meant to post this here, sorry!)

I am leaving for Belize on Monday. I just read that when I land in Belize, I must show that I have $60 a day! I will be there for 21 days and will only be carrying $200 cash. Everything has been paid by credit card and I plan to use credit or hit a bank machine when I need more cash.

How do I prove that I have this money? Were you ever asked to produce proof? I can't, nor do I want to walk around with wads of cash.

"Visitors must be able to present at least US$60.00 per day, for the duration of their stay".

Many thanks!

Typically if you are flying in or on a cruise ship then you don't have to worry about something like this. If you are hitch-hiking into the country with a battered back-pack then you might be asked to show you can support yourself, especially if you are from an adjacent country.

The rule is there to scare off the riff-raff (from the host country's perspective). Don't worry about it (unless you are hitch-hiking in on the back of a banana truck).

I'm no expert on Belize, but I think that amounts means if you just showed up trying to come into the country without any plans, no hotel reservations, no credit cards, etc.

We just returned from Belize Thursday. We flew there on Delta and no one ever asked how much money we had upon arrival or departure.

The only time I have ever been asked about funds was arriving in Jamaica back in the 70's traveling with backpacks.

Just returned...thanks for your answers! I didn't need to worry; no one asked me to produce proof of funds.
