Does anyone out there in Fodorland have realtime experience doing rapelling near Lafortuna? If so, send me a thread and I will download it to my PDA just like Jack Bauer. Better yet, send a schematic!!

I will let you know as soon as I hear from someone that has done the rapelling. I think I was a little over the top in my question.

Yes I've done the waterfall repel. It happen to be raining when husband and I went(mid 40's). We were going to get wet anyway. Guides did a great job, food was good,not great, and repel was fantastic. First waterfall was the highest which in a way was too bad as the more you did the better you got!

My husband and I did PureTrek canyoning last year, and are going back next month with our 19-year-old. It was quite an adventure, but we felt safe all the time. There was one woman in our group who was scared to death (that first waterfall is quite tall), but by the last rapel she was fine. Like Fry69 we went when it was rainy, perfect since you're way down in a gorge and wet anyway. Though they give you a special raincoat, wear quick-dry clothes. They have a gorgeous changing room so bring dry clothes too.

I just found a report in Arenal mentionning the water rapelling.Go to tripadvisor and click Fortuna area; then La Fortuna Hotels:Montana de Fuego Hotel Report...person recommends canyoning/water rapelling!!!

Thanks for the info. I believe we are going to take the plunge! It sure is cool being able to bounce stuff off complete strangers and feel great about what they tell you!
