Kon-Tiki Tours and Travel

Has anyone used this company for their Peru travels?

We are set to go with them and have seen no reference to them on this Travel Board.

Also, has anyone stayed at the Wasai Tambopata and Wasai Maldonado? All of the other accommodations that are part of our package are designated as starred or "Fodor's Choice" in my guide book, but I have seen no reference to the Wasai accommodations in the publication.

We are leaving soon, Monday, to be exact, and I guess I am getting some last minute jitters. I am hoping that someone can respond and make me relax a bit.

Thanks.

Is that really the spelling for your company? I thought it was Contiki.

Because Fodor's is primarily a forum for self-planning, that likely the #1 reason you don't see reference to them here. #2 Peru, being South America not Latin America, doesn't have a discussion board on this forum.

You might check over on Lonely Planet's forum called The Thorn Tree, in their South America branch.

Thorntree is much less contributed to by tour package folks than this forum, though. Here's the link anyway:

Happy trails!

My thought was only that it is a younger crowd and at least there is a branch for South America posting.

Yeah - it's always great to check more than one forum; I love having that option. I'm fairly new to this board and don't contribute much because I'm a budget traveler, partly by choice, and most people are either asking about countries I'll probably never choose to visit (Costa Rica - limited indigenous and archeological interest, Brazil - no Spanish, etc.) or are wanting things to be more upscale than the way I travel. That said, on the Thorntree Forum the pervading them is "go with the flow" and "don't plan ahead". I really like how people (in addition to myself) are plotting trips a year or more out on this forum. This site has a much better search engine, too.

Happy trails, all...

I know, and that's why it doesn't interest me. One of my main validations for traveling to other Latin American countries is to study and practice my Spanish (leaves Belize out, too, even though I loved it there).
