beanweb,
Barcelona Tapas should be fine for singles. Have the hotel make a reservation for you. While the view is best from the top terrace level, the lower level is non-smoking, so there's a trade-off there. We thought this place, and another called Epoca, were the best food we had there. We were disappointed with Cafe de Ola (check out reviews in Fodors Destinations section), but maybe it was an "off" night. Others have liked it.

Have a great trip.

I like Cafe de Olla best for a late lunch, it gets too crowded at dinner-time (people lining up on the sidewalk, and i agree it is not worth the wait). i don't think it's particularly outstanding food but decent, and i more recommend it because i like the waiters, the overall atmosphere, and they are always very nice to me as a single person. The sopas and quesidillas are inexpensive and good.

Joe Jacks Fish Shack next door has much better food, it's true!

Great "lunch" places are the many Taco stands in old town. Our favorite is on Madero just off Insurgents where for 30 pesos you can get 4 great El Pastor tacos & 2 soft drinks. Also for a bargain dinner Pollo Feliz on the same corner has delicious BBQ chicken with all the trimmings that two can have for about 100 pesos total.
Also check out the bargain food spots on the second floor of the Flea Market just before you cross the bridge on Insurgents.

Another place not to miss--Robertos gelato is really great! On the Malecon.

Just an amuzing note on the taxi's: I left PV from Olas Altas by Daquiri Dicks February 14. I asked three taxi's the fare to the airport and got three quotes (in pesos-- 150, 140 and 120) then I walked up one block and took the bus for 5 pesos.

120 pesos sound right from the south side to the airport.

I paid 100 peso last summer from Emperador back to the airport. My suitcase is slightly too big for it to be practical to go by bus.
