Isla Mujeres for a week?

Our family is looking for a nice, relaxing beach vacation over Thanksgiving break. We're considering Villa Rolandi on Isla Mujeres. It sounds like what we're looking for but I'm hesitant because it sounds like a lot of people visit as a day trip or spend only a few days. Is it too small to spend an entire week there? Would it be better to spend half of our time in Cancun (if so, where's a great beach spot??) and half of our time at Villa Rolandi? What will the weather, water, and bugs be like at that time of year? ANY help you can provide will be helpful. We've got to make our decision SOON!

hi, one of our fellow fodorites (who's sn i cannot recall) has a lengthy report which she forwarded to me via email. she has apparently been on isla numerous times. if you will post an email address i will forward it to you. i have not been yet but am planning a trip in next year or so. our main focus will be to snorkel daily and we plan to spend a week before heading to the mainland probably to tulum area.

We are heading to Isla over Easter for a week. I have spoken to many people who vacation in Isla often. From everything I have heard and what you are saying Isla should be great for you. I hear Villa Rolandi is wonderful, but you will need a golf cart or taxi to get you to the main part of town. If you are looking for evening walks in town and want to be able to walk many places you may want to consider a few nights in Playa Norte. Ixchel beach condos are supposed to be very nice. I know there are also some very nice boutique hotels, but since our trip is with the kids...those are out of the question. You may want to post on It's a great resource for Isla. Many people head to big AI resorts and are stuck there for a week. I can't imagine that you would feel stuck, besides you can always day trip over to Cancun. There are many boat trips, snorkel spots, beach clubs, etc to enjoy. We can't wait for our trip.

Hi - we stayed at Villa Rolandi for a week and loved it! We truly enjoyed Isla and are planning to go back. That said, VR is very laid back, quiet, relaxing. How old are your kids - I don't think they allow children there. We went in late April, so I can't help with the weather question.

The kids are 10, 14, and 18. I think they do take kids but I'll look into that ...
I'm worried about the possible no-see-ums in November so I think we'll postpone this trip until march...
