Is Chitchen Itza too hot in summer?

We'd love to explore Chitchen Itza and the surrounding area, but are limited to going in the summer (any time from June to Aug). Is it too hot to really enjoy? Are accommodations usually air conditioned? We're from Virginia so have some heat tolerance... Thanks for thoughts.

I'm pretty sure it's always hot. I was there in April, and even then it was the hottest place I'd ever been (or at least felt like it). It was sweltering. However, it was an interesting place and was worth it - just take water and keep in the shade if possible.

We went in April, and it was HOT! (We are from NC, so we are pretty used to it too.)

We flew from Cozumel, and got there first thing in the morning, so that helped as we also got there before the tour bus hordes.

My advice, drive yourself and get there early, hire a guide, take LOTS of water and take it slow.

April is the hottest time of the year.

Yes, it is hot all the time but summer has the high humidity, too.

But if you are from Virginia is should be no sweat. (hee hee) Just plan for it.

If you can, go early, quit and take a nap at 10 and go back at 6.

I went to Chitchen in July. Yes it was hot but it was an unforgetable experience and a highlight for our Cancun trip that year. Bring water bottles (but do not ice them first -- contrast too great), and sunscreen. There are shady areas there as well. There's an extra charge for video cameras as I remember. Enjoy! An amazing place!
