Yes, it is safe. My husband and I just returned from a week in Cancun and I felt very, very safe. We took the local bus around town, walked in the evening and never had a problem with anything or anybody. With regard to Sr. Frog's: I don't understand why anybody over 21 would want to go there anyway - especially a tour guide who should know better. Go and have fun - just be cautious like in any city or town around the world.

Thanks, Susan! Your reply makes me feel better! My husband and I leave on June 24 for 7 nights in Cancun to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

Dear Susan:
Yes, I agree... Cancun is safe. I've been vacationing there for over 10 years, but why the personal attack on the Tour Operator? Your flippant comments leads me to believe that you know Nothing about what occurred to him, therefore I am unable to respect your opinion. I, on the other hand, did some research, placed several calls to Cancun, the police, and the Consulate to verify this occurred... and in fact, it did. I bet the Tour Operator, as I and others, would appreciate you not referring to something you know nothing about. Do you? You said, Why would a Tour Operator, or anyone over 21 go to Senor Frogs? Well, because it's a well-known restaurant and club. You mean you've never been? What's your point, please explain? So, you feel that anyone over the age of 21 that visits Senor Frogs deserves to be attacked? That's ludicrous. And, why should a Tour Operator know better than to go to Frogs? If a Tour Operator shouldn't go, does that mean that no one is safe to go? Please, do tell.

Dear Tour Operator:

In no way did I mean to personally attack the Tour Operator and I apologize if that's the way it seems. That's the one negative thing about e-mail: you may type something and people read it with a different meaning. I honestly think what happened to him is a terrible thing and the attackers should be punished. I am totally against violence. All I meant was that Senor Frogs is not a place that I could imagine people who are 34 years of age would want to go for a night out (unless they enjoy sliding fully clothed through a tunnel into the lagoon for a free drink). Yes, I have been to Senor Frogs, just last Tuesday. I had originally been there for my college spring break 15 years ago and enjoyed it. So this trip I thought it would be fun to see it again. My husband and I went at around 8 pm and had half a beer and left. We were the oldest people by about 12 years (I'm 32) and by far the most sober. The D.J. started the music and it just seemed like things were going to get out of hand so we left. I was really disappointed in the place and can't imagine stepping foot in there again. My reference to a tour operator knowing better was just that I would think that any tour operator would know that the place is filled with very young, drunk patrons - not that he deserved to be beaten. Maybe my experience was so bad because it was "summer break" and filled with students. Anyway, didn't mean to offend anyone.

we returned from cancun on 18th May. Everything fine at hotels but just a certain 'something' made me rather guarded when walking around 'downtown' or the markets. The locals spat on some Brits who would not buy from their stall. THAT wasn't nice. On the whole, I didn't feel overwhelmingly safe as in say, Med countries etc. Sorry to be pessimistic. Enjoy your holiday
