How to find a travel companion?

I am planning a trip to Ecuador and Galapagos Islands next year (May). My friend who was planning on going with me is now unable. Is anyone familiar with any travel agencies that match up singles (not a dating service!!) traveling with other singles? I would like to spend two or three days in Quito then tour the Galapagos Islands for 4-5 days. Any advice? Would this be a safe trip to take for a single female if I am unable to find someone to travel with me?

I went to Ecuador, the Galapagos, and Banos in late Jan-early Feb . . . I was alone for the Banos/Quito parts. I originally planned on going alone and at the last minute, my daughter was able to join me for a portion of the trip. It was my second trip to Ecuador . . . I was alone on my first trip also.

I didn't hesitate to plan this trip solo . . . if you book on a small ship (and you should), you'll have a dozen new best friends in minutes. I was on the Samba and there was one single lady and she had been traveling solo in Ecuador for over a month and felt safe doing so.

After the Galapagos, I went to Banos for a few days and then back to Quito . . . I didn't feel unsafe, I kept as low a profile as possible (for a red-haired pale face with a Texas twang) and I tried to pay attention to what was happening around me.

I typed up my travelog and would be happy to email it to you if you're interested. Just send me a note at [email protected].

Buen viaje,
Sandy (in Denton)

Is a Galapagos cruise safe for a female alone? Absolutely, probably safer than staying on land.

My recommendation does not really match your desire of a 4-5 day cruise because the company I'll mention does 11 days in the islands. Galapagos Travel in Aptos, CA will match you up with a roommate and if they cannot find one, you pay no supplement. On my last trip with them I scored a single room since no roommate materialized. Their trips are for 16 max.

Good luck and you'll have an awesome time.
