We are thinking of going from San Ignacio to Lamanai Outpost Lodge for a night. Does anyone know how long that would take by car (and boat, obviously)?

Is it a crazy idea?

I think the road part would be about 4 hours, then an hour or 2 by boat, depending on whether you want to just head straight there or enjoy the trip, stopping to look at crocs and birds and monkeys enroute. Where would you plan to head next?

Good question. We have a night to fill between San Ignacio and Placencia. The other place we really wanted to go was Lamania, but that sounds like it might be crazy talk to fit it in. Any thoughts of where else to go for one night?

Another option would be staying in Maya Centre or the Cockscomb Reserve and doing a night tour; here's the link to the reserve site and you could consider lodging at the 2nd one, or hire them for a night trip. There are good waterfall hikes, too.

I can make it from Cayo to Lamanai in 3 hours, but I know the roads, and drive quickly. The Lamanai Outpost Lodge would be a great place to stay for a night...I've done it. It's right there at the ruins too. If you have a car, I'd say go for it.

Have you gotten any pricing from LOL? I'm considering a stay there for a night or two in May and can't find any prices on their website. Trying to decide if a package is the way to go or whether to just pay for things a la carte.

Heading to Tikal is a really good idea. You can stay overnight in Flores. Or Xunantunich (not too far from San Ignacio) is my favorite Mayan ruin.
