I've been searching for Feb. airfare and its quite high right now. Experts say don't start looking more than 3 months out. Just wondering what most of your frequent fliers to SJO do?

look at your flights seating chart. A full chart means you waited too long.

What air search allow you to do that before you purchase tickets?

February is peak time in Costa Rica, so if the flights are already looking to be at high prices, this is likely to be because they're busy. In this scenario, they're only likely to increase, so I suspect you'd be best to look at getting them sooner rather than later.

I have heard that the most popular time is averaged at 34 days ahead. This was mentioned on my car radio just the other day. Mine are already purchased but if not, I would look into this to see if there is any truth to it.

There is no correct answer to your question. When you see an airfare that looks good to you, book. I booked my airfare DC-San Jose-DC about 4 months ahead of time and paid about $630RT. I'm on a home exchange up in the mountains in San Jose. The area is San Ramon. Basically I wanted my airfare over and done with before I went to Europe last summer on home exchanges in France and Spain.

Please note that home exchange vacations are very different than trips to resorts (which many Americans do). I am not critical of those sorts of holidays, but I won't be able to answer a lot of the conventional questions.
