honeymoon planning - need advise

hi,

my fiance and i are thinking about going to honduras for 10 days for our honeymoon at the end of june.. we want to split our time between the mountains and the beach.... we are thinking about spending 3 nights at the pico bonito lodge..do we need a car? is it possible to "get into town to experience any of the local culture/foods from this area? can we easily visit ruins from here?....and then take the ferry from la cieba to roatan and spend 5 nights there...we are considering spending 3 nights at the lilypond guesthouse but i dont think they have a pool so would like to find another romantic, somewhat quiet and secluded spot on the beach to spend 3 nights.... any experiences with either of these hotels? other suggestions on places / hotels to consider. Nothing is booked yet. Also how bad is the weather in late june? thank you... all your posts have been so wonderful....especially loved the on eabout eating cheap ---we 'll certainly be checking out some of those places!

I love Honduras - heading back for my 3rd visit this summer. My photos and travelogues are here if you're interested:

I don't choose to rent cars in CA, preferring buses or shuttles or taxis as needed. Lodges often offer rides. You're likely to fly into San Pedro
Sula (SAP) which is about 3 hours by bus to the ruins at Copán. La Ceiba, the city nearest Pico Bonito, is 3 hours a different way from San Pedro Sula. You can't fly to Copán but you can to La Ceiba and Roatán. Congratulations and happy trails!

fly into san pedro sula

(can we connect to local flight direct to Roatan and approx how much/ person?)

4 nights in roatan -- lilypond guesthouse in half moon bay... are the beaches here swimmable (soft sand/clear water)

--- ferry to la ceiba.. rent car stay 3 nights in pico bonito lodge....( we wanted car to be able to explore area..go out to eat etc)

drive to copon.... stay 3 nights at hacienda san lucas

drive to pedro san luca and fly out

any suggestions/ recommendations??

I can't advise you on car rental or driving as I choose to do neither in CA. The flights between SAP and Roatan (RTB) were $115 last I looked. The airlines are linked on the links page of the Coco Pando site. Your itinerary sounds good, though I'd reverse, I think - drive to Copan, do the La Ceiba piece, and ferry to Roatan, then fly straight from there to SAP to return home. I like saving the blue water parts of my trips for last. Keep us posted!

Did you end up staying at the lily pond guesthouse? I'm trying to choose between staying there and the land's end resort and was curious if the lily pond guesthouse is really as nice as all the reviews on tripadvisor indicate. The main drawback seems to be the fact that it's not on the water.
