Honeymoon in August
My fiance and I are thinking about honeymooning in Belize- we are getting married in early August and I have read mixed information about the weather at that time. I understand that the northern part of the country is less impacted by the rainy season but I am worried about the humidity. How hot really is it? Is it unbearable to the point where you can't do much outside? Give me some comparisons to go one- like New Orleans in August? Japan in August? New York in August?
Also, we are looking for some high-end but not outrageous hotels to stay in- what are your favorites?
Thanks for any advice you can give!

Our hottest months are April and May. Summer rains are usually brief and sporadic. Sea breezes refreshing. Cooler in the mountains on the mainland in the evenings. But never as bad as NYC is summer.

We visited Belize in July/August 2003 and think it's a great time to travel there. It was hot and very muggy, but it rained in the night frequently and kind of refreshed things. We only had rain during the day twice in nearly a month of travel and it didn't slow us down a bit. We didn't have AC anywhere we went, but there were nights it was hard to sleep; not most of the time, though. Here's a link to our travelogue (which will also introduce you to the Belize Forum if you haven't explored there yet):

Congratulations and have a great trip!

Katie and hopefulist both give good advice. I was there for 2 weeks last August and it was definitley hot, but not unbearable. Rained hard several nights and once in the afternoon, but no big deal. Certainly the weather was no worse than we get here in the northeast in August. It can be deceiving if you read weather info about Belize because it will say that it rains every day, but really that just means an afternoon or evening shower.
I found the real advantages of summer travel were the prices were better and there were never any crowds of any kind. Definitely go. You'll have a blast!
