The beaches in the Riviera Maya have been having issues with sargassum. It changes from day to day so there is no way to predict if it would even be a problem when you would go.
I would go with your Barbados reservation.

I think the sargassum problem is all over the Caribbean both Mexico and Barbados. Don't let this scare you, you'll still have a great time. I've never been to Barbados, but been to this part of Mexico many times. It's an amazing area, with wonderful beaches (the sargassum comes and goes), great food, and friendly locals. Lots to see and do close by like Mayan ruins, jungle pools (cenotes), snorkeling, etc. I'm sure Barbados is also great - you can't go wrong either way.
