Has anyone stayed at the barcelo? Its fairly new and haven't heard anything about it. Also, what is that area like, as far as safety?

Dee, you might get a few more replies if you also post under the "caribbean" section since most posters here seem to concentrate on Mexico. I'd love to see what people say about this resort also. Just look at the top of the page and change forums to caribbeanan and post the same question.

well, I answered my own question.<BR>Just got back from the barcelo and I wouldn't go back, ever. (everyone) in the resort got food poisoning, and immodium, pepto bismol, and gravel didn't help any. They sent in a doctor, and he visited every room in the resort. We got 2 shots in the behind, and were given medication, and told we would be charged for it. Then they returned and said the hotel was picking up the charges. They asked what we ate and were trying pinpoint where the poisoning came from. We were laid up in bed and many of us had IV for the dehydration. They didn't have anything to hold up the bag, so they tied shoe laces to the ceiling fan!.<BR>The doctor could'nt speak english, so they had a translator. They didn't even ask us if we had any allergies to any medication!<BR><BR>Many people were ripped off at the casino including my huband. He won a jackpot, and the light was flashing, but no coin was coming out. WHen the guy come over, he opened the machine and cleared our payout amount. We were absolutly furious. We had no proof and they would'nt give us a penny. The only reply we could get from them was &quot;no commprede&quot;. Then we found out it happened before.<BR>I was not a happy camper. <BR>Now back to the food. They were the most unsanitary place I've been to . The food on the hotplates was lukewarm or cold, bugs all over the food. Someone got chicken wings from the snack bar and the girl behind the counter picked them up with her bare hands. When the woman took a bite, the wing was bloody. <BR>Beleive me, take your money somewhere else!<BR><BR>

Dee, So sorry to hear about your nightmare!! We are also thinking of this resort, but have had no reports. Now I'm re-thinking. . . Anybody else been there??
