Help with Mexico Beach Trip!!!
Help! We are going on our first kid-free vacation. We have reservations at Riu Palace Mexico in Playa; I keep reading horrible reviews of the beach and have seen pics of the beach erosion. We are thinking of changing to the Riu Cancun - there is a GREAT deal (1/2 the price). We really wanted a great beach. Can anyone comment on the status of the RPM beach (or Playa in general) or on Riu Cancun? THANKS!

Hello,
There has been some beach erosion, but there is a plan in place for the re-development of the beach. The re-building process is scheduled to start around mid-April, but the resorts have been full and that has delayed the start of the project.
The Royal Hideaway Playacar is a gorgeous, adults-only all-inclusive resort in that area that has lovely beach, despite the erosion. Cancun is a big city on the beach, so consider the differences in environment and ambiance along with the price.
Best Regards,
Julia

Thanks Julia... the Royal Hideaway is one of the beaches that I heard has the worst erosion problem. Have you been to the area recently? Does anyone have any comments on Xpu-Ha or Tulum beaches and / or lodging?
After a bit of searching I found Catalonia Royal Tulum, which sounds nice. Anyone have any feedback?

Beaches in Tulum are great, but be aware that Catalonia Royal Tulum is not in Tulum. I'm not sure where it is exactly, but there are no large hotels in Tulum - it's mostly eco-conscience small cabana hotels running on solar/wind power.
